Lloyds of London (1936)

Directed by Henry King
My rating: 3 stars out of 4
IMDb
(Fox Movie Channel)

Fine Dickensian tale of young Jonathan Blake's rise from peasant boy to power broker in the insurance industry of England. The backdrop is England's war with France and the naval battles of Horatio Nelson. The film drags in the middle, bogged down by a romantic feud between Blake and the snobbish Lord Stacy. Still, solid performances all around and a parade of historical figures which makes it fun.
