Irwin Allen TV production that stretches the disaster formula to an almost unbearable length. A collection of people with various problems ends up on a bridge that collapses due to some underground tremors. They are trapped on the center span with no way off, high above a river. Desi Arnaz, Jr. holds them hostage at gunpoint, his bank robbery escape plans thwarted. His bewildered girlfriend shakes her head in disbelief, unaware that he has been lying to her for months. Leslie Nielsen tries to convince his girlfriend that stealing bonds is no big deal. Eve Plumb and Gregory Sierra protect a little orphan girl on her way to a new family. Meanwhile, the police and firemen try to rescue them by "bosun's chair" (see the Towering Inferno). All of this is stretched out to nearly 3 hours by flashbacks that provide background to each character. The final climb down the bridge takes forever.
