Smoke Signal (1955)

Universal-International Pictures
Directed by Jerry Hopper
My rating: 2 stars out of 4
IMDb
(Encore)

When a Cavalry outpost is threatened with massacre by Indians, they take to the nearby Colorado River for escape. They face rapids, Indians and each other during their long journey to safety. Dana Andrews is a former Captain and "Indian lover", under arrest for desertion and facing a court martial if they reach their destination. William Talman is the commander who is embarrassed by Andrews at every step, blinded by his desire to see Andrews brought to justice. Piper Laurie is the girl who falls in love with Andrews, and the only one to see the truth. Spectacular Grand Canyon locations overshadowed by poor use of back projection and obvious dummies for some of the more dangerous stunt work.
