Two upstart reporters for the Washington Post turn a routine story of a break-in at a Washington hotel into the biggest political scoop of all-time. Their reliance on unnamed sources, including the infamous "Deep Throat", irks their superiors who at first don't want to print the story. However, their tireless efforts to uncover the truth ultimately lead to their vindication, and the downfall of a president. Redford and Hoffman are perfect in their roles, vividly bringing to life their disbelief and horror at the facts as they uncover them. You can't help but root for them. Incredible attention to detail and a crisp screenplay that is all brought together by Pakula's direction and cinematography by Gordon Willis make for an American classic.
