The Indian Tomb (1921)

Directed by Joe May
My rating: 3 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Image Entertainment)

A prince in India sends his mystic yogi to England to convince an architect to build a tomb in honor of his wife. He agrees but gets more than he bargained for in India. The prince is in a jealous rage over his wife's infidelity with a local British officer. His desperate attempts at revenge lead him to hunt down the man and imprison his wife. Meanwhile the architect comes down with leprosy and finds himself among the "living dead" of a leper colony. His wife, who followed from England, has been searching for him all along, and she is kidnapped by the prince. The stories are neatly intertwined leading to many adventures, escapes and plot twists. The sets are impressive giving the film an exotic, sinister atmosphere. A tad too long at close to three hours (it's in two parts), but my attention rarely faltered.
