Young teacher Sandy Dennis takes a job at a tough New York City high school. The students are undisciplined and bored, some are violent, and the school administration overwhelmed. Another teacher flirts with her, but when his harsh treatment of a student leads to an attempted suicide she abhors him. She deals with her own unwanted attention from a smart but unmotivated student and gang member, who corners her one night in a classroom. Contemplating resignation, she finds some success in organizing a student play and changes her mind. Somewhat dated but still interesting drama, with excellent work from Dennis as usual. Shot on location around NYC.
