Eric Stoltz sees his brother killed in battle and leaves to join King Richard on a Crusade. Along the way, he picks up a rag-tag group of children, including a large group of orphans in Paris. Soon, they are skipping and singing across the countryside to find Richard. It's an odd mixture of bloodless combat seemingly aimed at children. However, the main antagonist is the Black Prince, a cartoonish villain supposedly none other than the devil himself. Stoltz is completely wrong for the role, he lacks the charisma to lead a group of kids in a battle against Satan. When they do finally reach their stated goal and find Richard, they decline his offer to join him.
