Poor ole David Farrar works in a "back office" that does research for the British military. He lost his foot in some unexplained past incident, and the the pain constantly bothers him. He sometimes takes pills but mostly drinks. His girlfriend also works in the office but it's a secret affair. She tries to get him to stand up to the boss, and deal with his drug and alcohol problem. At one point he sees a 20-foot high bottle of whiskey and goes on a rampage when she temporarily leaves him. He's also an expert bomb diffuser, and in the film's best sequence diffuses a German bomb on a beach.
