Quick Money (1937)

RKO Radio Pictures
Directed by Edward Killy
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(Turner Classic Movies)

Screwy comedy about a small town duped into investing in a phoney resort by con men posing as financiers. Only the town's mayor suspects the truth but he must go to extremes to save it from financial ruin. It culminates in an election to impeach the mayor, during which he locks the voting place, steals the ballot box and even sets off booby traps with the help of his aspiring chemist son. An intrepid newspaper reporter saves the day. The predictable ending and forced folksy sentiment keep it a notch below the best films of its type.
