Rumble on the Docks (1956)

Columbia Pictures
Directed by Fred F. Sears
My rating: 2 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Sony Screen Classics by Request)

It's the Stompers vs Diggers on the Brooklyn docks in this mix of mob and gang genres. Teenager James Darren is the leader of the Diggers. There are the usual rumbles over turf and girls. Darren becomes the darling of the thugs running the local longshoreman union. He likes the easy money, but when he is called to court to lie under oath he bails, leading to a showdown in a a dark garage. The acting is strained, with the exception of Timothy Carey as one of the mob hoodlums, who is always a blast to watch.
