Overly familiar story of small town girl finding fame on Broadway with the help of a producer. She falls in love with him, but he's only got eyes for the money of a society dame. Wini Shaw livens things up with her torch songs and slinky dresses. The dance scene which garnered an Oscar nomination takes place inside a glass of champagne featuring dancing girls with balloons attached to them for the bubbles.
