A young Jewish boy in Montreal idolizes his religious grandfather, much to the dismay of his father. The grandfather takes him along on his weekly ride through the streets collecting junk from residents. He takes care of the aging horse, whose stable causes many problems with neighbors. Meanwhile his father is busy with hair brained inventions, gambling and trying to debunk the religious stories told by the grandfather. A sometimes magical, sometimes forced, look at growing up and the shattered dreams of childhood.
