Nico Icon (1995)

Directed by Susanne Ofteringer
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Fox Lorber)

Informative documentary on the life of supermodel turned actress turned singer Nico. Her early years in Germany are affectionately recalled by her mother, who remembers a shy child named Christa. Discovered by a photographer, her statuesque good looks lead to modeling in Paris and eventually New York, where she ends up at Andy Warhol's factory. She sings (and plays tambourine) with the Velvet Underground, launching the musical career that she would continue to pursue the rest of her life. Sadly, she ends up a rock and roll cliche, addicted to heroin, broke and alone.
