Historical drama surrounding the Greek battle against the invading Persians at Thermopylae. Richard Egan plays the Greek king Leonidas, who leads his sparse Spartan Army against the vast hordes of invaders. He gets precious little help from the other Greek states, who would rather participate in a religious festival. Leonidas is forced to use imaginative techniques to hold off the Persians. This works for awhile, but when they are surrounded defeat becomes inevitable, though they make a heroic last stand. Potentially interesting story falters under sword and sandal cliches and forced romantic subplot.
