Bear Island (1979)

Directed by Don Sharp

IMDb Wikipedia

A group of international scientists travel to a remote Arctic island to study climate change. Instead, they find Nazis and stolen gold! Donald Sutherland is an American scientist whose father was a Nazi u-boat captain, and he finds his rotting corpse still on board. He discovers the gold and the Nazis try to kill him. There are several chase scenes involving vehicles that resemble air boats, but over snow. Richard Widmark tries too hard to speak with a German accent. There are some scenes with obvious and poorly done back projection. It's based on an Alistair MacLean novel. The Arctic scenery is good, although it is really British Columbia in Canada, so it is not a total loss.
