The Witch (1966)

Directed by Damiano Damiani
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Sinema Diable)

Richard Johnson plays a suave Italian skirt chaser who follows an old woman into her mansion only to seduce/be seduced by her daughter, the lovely Rosanna Schiafinno. The live-in librarian and fencing master is also sleeping with her, but seems oddly unconcerned about the developing romance. The two women, or maybe just one, goad Johnson into committing murder and then blackmail him into staying in the mansion. The plot was a little too familiar and predictable: an aging woman who has found a way to retain her youth by some kind of black magic with a high cost. It's also talky and spends too much time on relationship drama, but the mansion does have atmosphere and the ending was a shocker.
