Slick Hollywood reproduction of life on the home front during WWII can't obscure the fact that this is basically a tepid love story. Ed Harris volunteers for service after the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. Goldie Hawn is his young wife who works in an airplane factory staffed with other women who have taken up the slack due to the lack of men. Kurt Russell is the musician-manager she falls in love with while Ed is away fighting the war. All of the characters are stereotypes, especially the men. Goldie is barely passable with comedy, but downright embarrassing when she tries to get serious, such as the scene outside a music club which leads to a cat fight with her best friend over Kurt.
