The Americans recruit German POWs for spy missions into Germany. Oskar Werner decides he's had it with the Nazis and agrees to go undercover to find the location of a Panzer tank battalion. He is unexpectedly recruited by the Germans to babysit an ill general, but it ends up giving him the location of the tanks. He is forced to make a run for it when his fake identity is compromised in an exciting conclusion. An unusual angle for a WWII story, with glimpses of the real post war Germany in ruins only a few years after the war.
