Working class girl Ginger Rogers, a telephone operator, reluctantly accepts the proposal of her car salesman boyfriend. The next day, she steps into the expensive car of mechanic Burgess Meredith thinking he is a wealthy playboy. After one date he proposes and she once again accepts. However, after she finds out who he really is she sets her sights once again on the real wealthy playboy. Another whirlwind romance and marriage proposal follows. Who will she choose? Occasionally funny screwball comedy with some inventive dream sequences, but Rogers' imitation Katherine Hepburn becomes tiresome.
