Betty Hutton stars as Pearl White, who rose from working class seamstress to become a silent film actress famous for her outrageous stunts in serials. Unfortunately, it's entirely made up. Still, it's a lot of fun, with Hutton singing and dancing her way from a traveling theater troupe to the movies. She falls for the leader of the troupe but their romance takes awhile to get going. The plot takes a few too many melodramatic turns, but the recreation of the early days of the silents keeps it interesting.
