Hothead taxi driver James Cagney gets caught up in the NYC taxi wars, where thugs are killing each other over territory. When his brother is murdered, Cagney vows revenge. The film detours into his home life with Loretta Young, whom she marries despite misgivings about his temper. We get some interesting glimpses of a night at the movies in 1932, a dance contest where George Raft shows up and a musical revue at the Cotton Club. He gets another opportunity to carry out his revenge when the killer comes back to town and Loretta tries to stop him.
