The Visitor (1979)

The International Picture Show Company
Directed by Giulio Paradisi
My rating: 1.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Code Red)

Derivative film with two main influences: The Omen and Close Encounters. Like The Omen, an evil child torments her parent and wreaks havoc on innocent people around Atlanta. However, the gender switch doesn't work: a pony-tailed girl with a southern drawl who pouts is not evil. Then there is the sci-fi angle which borrows heavily from Close Encounters, particularly the special effects and lighting. John Huston is "the visitor", but his rooftop symphony of lights and alien landing strip induce laughs rather than awe. Glenn Ford provides the only semblance of sanity and acting as a police detective, but his character is killed early when attacked by a bird in his car. Speaking of birds, the world's savior is not aliens, but a flock of pigeons.
