A successful magazine editor suffers a stroke and becomes "locked-in": able to hear and understand with perfect clarity but unable to talk. He is able to control his one usable eye, and uses it to communicate with the world through blinking and a system devised by his nurse. He is able to write a book which is published to great success. He tries to revive his relationship with his ex-wife and children, but as you can imagine it is difficult. Shot mostly from his point-of-view, it is a curiously unmoving story. Perhaps it is the incessant internal dialogue, his obsession with sex, even while paralyzed, or the deadpan humor, but I cared very little for him or his predicament, harrowing as it is.
