Daughter of the Mind (1969)

Directed by Walter Grauman
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(Fox Movie Channel)

The annual October Horror Challenge kicks off with an obscure made-for-TV movie. This will be a recurring theme, as I have several lined up throughout the month. The late 60s through the 70s was the "golden age" of made-for-tv movies, especially in the horror genre. They usually featured aging stars in some of their final roles, and this one is no exception. Ray Milland thinks he is communicating with his dead daughter. He sees her on dark highways and hears her in his house. He calls in an expert on ESP to determine if it's real or fake. It turns out spies are trying to convince him to stop working on missiles that could destroy the world. Very much a product of its time, but some moody color photography and handheld camera work create a creepy atmosphere before the film unwinds with the standard spy plot. John Carradine appears briefly as a magician.
