While the City Sleeps (1956)

Directed by Fritz Lang
My rating: 1.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(Turner Classic Movies)

I have finally seen Fritz Lang's worst film. It's a story of the petty, backstabbing, drunken, adulterous lives of a group of newspaper men and women. They are challenged by new corporate owner Vincent Price to find the indentity of the "Lipstick Killer". The audience is in on his indentity from the beginning. His motivation is revealed in one scene with his mother, which is unintentionally hilarious and ends with him almost strangling her. He takes out his frustrations by breaking into the apartments of young women. It features a dream cast of mainly B-movie stars: Ida Lupino, Rhonda Fleming, Vincent Price and George Sanders are some of the recognizable faces.
