Hope Lange and her husband inherit a farm in rural Massachusetts (actually southern California). Soon after, she starts having flashbacks of a coven of witches, consisting of many of her new friends and neighbors. The couple adopts a 10-year old girl who also turns out to be a witch. The little girl plots against her by using the jealous tendencies of her husband. The flashbacks intensify revealing that she is actually the reincarnation of a witch who made a bargain with the devil to save herself at the expense of others, who now want their revenge. The flashbacks are by far the most interesting scenes, the rest a rather familiar "is she crazy or is she really seeing witches" plot device, left unresolved by the ending.
