13 West Street (1962)

Columbia Pictures
Directed by Philip Leacock
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Sony Screen Classics by Request)

Alan Ladd is beat up by a gang of juvenile delinquents late one night when his car runs out of gas. Overworked police detective Rod Steiger is too slow to identify them, so he takes matters into his own hands. His desire for revenge takes over his whole life, threatening to cost him his job and his marriage. Well-paced drama that manipulates the emotions of the audience perhaps against their better judgement. Car chase scenes are marred by unnecessary "fast motion", sped up for effect.
