A gang of extortionists and kidnappers led by Rod Steiger torment James Mason and his family while evading the FBI. Inger Stevens as Mason's wife is quite good as a frightened yet determined wife. Her scenes with thug Neville Brand stand out. Steiger is the brains of the outfit, staying one step ahead of the FBI while trying to recover a half million dollars in ransom for the kidnapped family. Location shooting in NYC and documentary-like feel add authenticity.
