A socially inept couple discover they are pregnant and move into his one-room apartment in the middle of a dreary industrial complex. However the baby she brings home from the hospital appears to be something other than human and is perpetually sick. His wife soon walks out leaving poor Henry alone to take care of the offspring. Fiercely original first film from director Lynch paints an uncompromisingly bleak picture. My only minor gripe is that it could have been even more effective without resorting to graphic depictions of the baby's sickness and violence directed towards it.
