A successful doctor in turn-of-the century Japan marries a mysterious girl suffering from amnesia. His well-to-do parents are skeptical of her past. They are brutally murdered by a man who looks just like their son, who is thrown into a nearby dry well and held prisoner. His doppelganger assumes his life, but his wife soon suspects the truth. A change of pace for Tsuskamoto, at least stylistically, but the dark themes are still present. Gorgeously shot in color, with "rounded corners" around the picture a nice touch.
