After winning a large sum of money in a sweepstakes, secretary Frances Dee heads to NYC to stay in an upscale hotel. The prince of a European country is working there incognito as a bellboy so he can learn how it operates and open one back at home. He falls for Dee but she initially has misgivings about his strange behavior. When she gets invited to a big social ball, she accepts his invitation, where his true identity gets revealed. Unfortunately Dee and leading man Francis Lederer lack on-screen chemistry so their romance never works. The plot is reworked nearly 20 years later for Wyler's more famous Roman Holiday!
