James Garner takes the job of sheriff in a wacky western town overcome with gold rush fever. The jail has no bars (on order), but he still keeps accused gunslinger Bruce Dern locked up. Garner has free room and board in the house of the town mayor, where he flirts with ditzy Joan Hackett, who has a knack for getting into sticky situations. It's all good, clean fun that manages an occasional laugh, mostly when spoofing western cliches.
