Recently released from a stint in a mental institution after attacking his wife's lover, Bradley Cooper moves in with his middle aged parents in suburban Philadelphia. Diagnosed as bipolar, he tries to fight his demons without medication, but has a series of relapses. He meets recently widowed Jennifer Lawrence at a friend's house, who unsuccessfully tries to seduce him but keeps after him anyway. After a few disastrous dates, she pretends to deliver a letter to his estranged wife in order to coax him into a dance competition for the big finale. An uneasy mix of predictable romantic comedy with a more serious subtext about mental illness. At its best showing two people coming to grips with their emotional problems with the help of each other.
