Bombay Beach (2011)

Roco Films
Directed by Alma Har'el
My rating: 2.5 stars out of 4
IMDb Wikipedia
(DVD, Entertainment One)

A glimpse at life in a poor California community near the Salton Sea. The soul of the film is a young boy doted on by his mother, but over-medicated by his doctors. A teenage transplant from LA dreams of playing in the NFL (which, by the way, he eventually does). An elderly man with a zest for life survives a stroke, then hangs out with his friends selling cigarettes in Slab City, a sub-trailer park setting that makes Bombay Beach seem like a mecca. Billed as a documentary, but blurs the line with some obviously scripted scenes and musical interludes by Bob Dylan, which I could have done without.
