(DVD, Zeitgeist)
An impressionistic look at the 1973 Yom Kippur War between Israel and its Arab neighbors. It is presented almost entirely from the Israeli point of view, a weakness, but does at least include opposing points of view from two prominent Israeli thinkers. Sontag seems more interested in capturing the every day life of soldiers and residents as they go about their daily business than a political dissection of the war. The soundtrack consists of radio broadcasts, or ringing bells calling the faithful, and is just as important as the moody photography.
