Spys (1974)

Twentieth Century-Fox Film
Directed by Irvin Kershner
My rating: 2 stars out of 4
IMDb
(DVD, Fox)

This irreverent comedy tries to duplicate the success of MASH by re-teaming Gould and Sutherland, but is only marginally successful. The main problem is a razor thin plot, the duo just kind of drifts from situation to situation without any real motivation. Set in Paris, they are American spies, but just who are they spying on? Russians? Chinese? French anarchists? Americans? About the only thing you can say is that there is a cute dog that holds some important information. It's all an excuse for excessive car chases and juvenile slapstick humor.
